7 Tips To Get Used To Your New Hearing Aids (Thrive Hearing Pro Series)

Buying new hearing aids can feel overwhelming, but don't worry - we're here to help you every step of the way. You want to hear clearly without constantly noticing your hearing aids, and that's exactly what we aim for. It takes a little time to get used to them, but soon they'll feel like a natural part of your day. Let's walk through 7 important tips to make your transition as smooth as possible.

1. Before anything, find the right fit

Before you ever turn on your new Thrive Pro Hearing Aids, let's make sure they fit comfortably. Try inserting the device into your ear canal and test out the different sized ear tips that came with your package. You're looking for one that creates a snug seal in your ear. Don't be afraid to gently rotate or adjust the device until it feels just right.

2. Adjust to find the right volume level

Once you're comfortable with the fit, it's time to find the right volume. We suggest starting very low - about 10% of the maximum volume. Use the little adjustment tool in your package to turn the volume knob counterclockwise to its lowest setting. This low volume helps prevent any loud feedback when you first insert the aids. Now, turn on the device and carefully put it in your ear. Listen to the world around you - try different sounds like music, people talking, or the TV. Gradually increase the volume until you can hear comfortably without straining. Once you find that sweet spot, you probably won't need to adjust it often.

3. Insert your hearing aids carefully to avoid whistling and feedback

Carefully You might hear some whistling or feedback when you put in your hearing aids. This usually happens if the volume is too high or if you accidentally cover the microphone. Remember that low volume setting we talked about? That helps a lot here. When you're putting in your hearing aids, try to avoid pressing on the part with the microphone. With a bit of practice, you'll be able to pop them in without any unwanted noise.

4. Only wear them a few hours a day (to start)

It's tempting to wear your new hearing aids all day right from the start, but your ears and brain need time to adjust. Think of it like trying a new exercise - you wouldn't run a marathon on your first day of training! Start by wearing your hearing aids for just a few hours each day. This gives you time to get used to the physical feeling of wearing them and allows your brain to gradually adapt to processing sounds it hasn't heard in a while.

5. A little patience goes a long way

It's perfectly normal to feel a bit frustrated at first. Your ears might feel a little irritated, and the world might sound different than you remember. This is all part of the process. Your ear canals need time to get used to having something in them, and your brain is relearning how to process sounds it hasn't heard clearly in a while. Remember, this adjustment period is temporary, and things will improve day by day.

7. Gradually build up usage, and keep using your hearing aids

The key to success with your new hearing aids is consistency and gradual progress. For the first week, aim to wear them for 1-2 hours each day. In weeks 1-2, try increasing to 3-4 hours daily. By weeks 3-4, you should be ready to wear them all day. Once you reach this point, try to wear them consistently. Your ears and brain will get used to this new normal, and you'll soon find yourself more engaged with the world around you.

Remember: our mission at Thrive Hearing is to make better hearing accessible to everyone. We believe in you and know that with a little time and patience, you'll soon be enjoying clearer hearing and all the benefits that come with it.
